Successful at what?
Christopher Columbus was quite successful as an explorer in that he made contact with the natives of Hispaniola and successfully convinced Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand to begin the colonization of the Americas.
He was also a huge failure when it came to governing these territories and he died poor and perceived by his fellow Spaniards (and the natives) as an immensely cruel man.
Well, his whole journey was to prove that the earth was round and go all the way across the world to China, and come back with Chinese stuff. It WAS a difficult journey, yes indeed. But Christopher C. made it to North America, so if you think about the meaning of his journey, no he wasn't successful.
Some say that it was successful because he discovered the land and gold. In addition, Christopher Columbus used the Native Americans by asking for their gold, asking for their goods, and taking everything they had.
His trip was pretty successful for the Spaniards and all of Europe. They basically took over the land, resources and the people of north, central and south America. Although Christopher Colombus got fame in Europe he didn't became as wealthy as other people such as Hernan Cortez.
Partially, originally he was trying to find a route to India where all of the very valuable spices were but he ended up discovering a whole new continent instead, which back then how much land a country had was very important.

Some would say his expedition was successful. It depends your talking to. It's not fair to even give him credit for discovering America because he didn't, Amerigo Vespucci did and named the New World after himself. Christopher Columbus landed on some island in the Carribean Sea (I'm not sure exactly where.) I would say that his expedition was successful because he wasn't out looking for America, he was trying to prove that the Earth wasn't flat, and he did do that.Amerigo Vespucci didn't name it after himself Ferdinand maggelan named it after Vespucci so your answer was so false think a little .
