Maize (Zea mays), or "corn" as we call it in the US, was almost certainly used in Biblical times, but not in Biblical locations. Maize, or at least a close relative, was certainly being cultivated by mesoamerican cultures around Biblical times, regardless of Old or New Testament times. The word "corn" is used numerous times in the King James version of The Bible, but it's used as a general, all-inclusive word to refer to the grain from any of a number of cereal grasses, most likely wheat or barley. That's why most modern translations do not use the word "corn".

Zea mays, commonly known as maize or corn, originated in "Mesoamerica" and was domesticated about 2500BC. It did not find its way to the Old World of Europe and Asia until the Spanish explorers took it home as a curiosity and later the American colonists and French trappers learned how necessary it was for their survival.

No. Maize, (i.e. the type of plant of which US "corn" is one species) is exclusively from the Americas and only arrived in the Middle East in the 1500s C.E. In the Ancient Middle East, barley and wheat were the dominant cereal crops.

Yes, but not what you are thinking. Corn referred to many different types of grain, but not the "corn on the cob" type that you may be thinking of. That came from the Americas- but again, it did not look like present day corn. Ancient Americas corn looked more like an oversized stalk of wheat, oats or barley. By selective breeding the size and shape of the "ear" has changed greatly.

It does not symbolize anything. Corn just means any kind of grain. The American tribes had a grain they called maize, pronounced "my-say", and the Europeans called it corn.
