Was Jesus illiterate?

Answer:
At http://www.craigaevans.com/evans.pdf Craig A. Evans, a reputed Evangelical scholar (kind of modern apologist) admits that this question cannot be answered with certainty. So, scholars choose the view which seems most probable to them, but in the end there is no way to know for sure.

One argument would be: for a tekton it would be nonsense to be educated to read and write, so it is highly improbable that a tekton could read, let alone write.

Another argument: Jesus had a good knowledge of the Scriptures, especially as interpreted by the learned men of his time, so it is probable that he could at least read the Scriptures.
