Yes, Julius Caesar was a good leader for his time. He rewarded his troops and thereby insured their loyalty, despite a couple of mutinies. He rewarded his political backers in Rome and was very popular with the common people. He granted clemency and even Roman citizenship to towns and individuals. In other words, he was a man who knew how to grant favors and to withhold them, thereby gaining support and loyalty and building his personal reputation.

∙ 13y agoJulius Caesar was a very good ruler. He made himself consul and dictator. He never lost a battle. He used his power to carry out plans in much needed reform, relieving debt, enlarging the senate, building the Forum lulium, and revising the calendar among lots of other things.

∙ 13y agoHe was not emperor, first Roman Emperor was Augustus. While future Empire certainly gained a lot of territory cause his military campaign he also did start a very bloody civil war.
Being a person who did contributed to the decline of the Republic he certainly was good or even vital for Roman Empire.

∙ 11y agoJulius Caesar was popular with most people because of his personality. He is said to have been able to make friends with anyone (Cato excepted). He was extremely popular with the common people as he made many promises to lease their lives in the area of land and debt reform.
