How does the Haitian Rebellion related to anti-colonialism?

Colonialism is the control or governing influence of a nation over a dependent country, territory, or people. The Black Haitians were all slaves except for a very minute few. The slaves were outnumbered the white slave owners and other wealthy whites. When the French had one of their revolutions they set all of the slaves free, then later Napoleon tried to re-enslave the Black Haitians. The Black Haitians revolted with the help of Toussaint L'ouverture. The blacks did not want to be controlled and beaten and subjected to slavery at all, so they fought the French and France's allies and with the help of the Portuguese (who gave them guns). The Haitians, under the guidance of Toussaint L'ouverture, were able to remain free, and Haiti was the first country to abolish slavery. Although, during the revolution, Toussaint L'ouverture wanted/needed some of his followers go back to cultivating sugar cane; this caused major problems for Toussaint and actually lost him favor among his people. In addition, because Toussaint wrote the Constitution for the Republic of Haiti, he appointed himself supreme ruler (before he was captured by the French) and after he died and the governmental leadership was a mess because he didn't think of what would happen when he died or if the ruler would be just.
