Harry S. Truman was neither rich or poor. he group with his family on a farm and lived a happy childhood. But he was a little less than middle class for his father could not afford to send him to college.
Harry Truman was neither rich nor poor. He was raised on a farm. He joined the national guard and in World War 1 was an army officer. He was a store owner and lost his shirt. He went to law school and became a lawyer and then a judge. He went to the Senate. When the Democrats discovered that Vice President Henry Wallace was a Communist and President Roosevelt was in bad health, they made him Vice President. They recognized his competence. When FDR died, he became President. With his background, he owned a large house in Independence, Missouri, but did not have a large income from investments as did most of his predecessors. When his term ended, rather than have him go back to his past job as being a poker playing, whiskey drinking, country lawyer, hard swearing, congress voted him a pension.
