Best Answer

McKinley was the 5th president born in Ohio. Grant, Hayes, Garfield and Benjamin Harrison were all born in Ohio and served as president before him. However, one can argue that McKinley was the fourth president whose political base was Ohio, since Grant and Benjamin Harrison moved out of Ohio before they sought political office and William Henry Harrison moved into Ohio to begin his political career.
