no the main reason for the civil war was that there were soem states right advocated that says the states should decide if the follow that law. they were in the south. the people in the north were for federal rights. the states rights thing is basically going back to the Articles of Confederation which did'nt work

There are many reasons for the outbreak of the American Civil War. For many years there had been high tensions between the North and South. This was mainly over the issue of slavery. The belief in Manifest Destiny caused westward expansion across the continent. However every time there was a new territory there was always the question of slavery would be allowed there or not. There were many compromises such as the Missouri Compromise (1820) and there 1850 Compromise. However the problems continued. Bleeding Kansas showed how high tensions could reach. The slavery issue was also effecting political parties often splitting them North and South. The Republicans emerged as a northern party against slavery. When in 1860, Abraham Lincoln (the Republican Candidtate) won the election as a sectional, minority president due to the problems in the democrat party the Southern states felt this was the last straw. They believed in the right of secession and so South Carolina led the way by seceding in January 1861. 6 other states followed. After his inauguratiuon Lincoln faced many problems. One of these was how to deal with Fort Sumter which was a Union controlled fort in Confederate territory. The firsts shots of the Civil War were fired here by the Confederates. Amazingly no one was killed. After this event 4 more states seceded and war broke out.

The Civil War started because usually during an electoral vote the solid south which is the whole south opposed some candidate and voted him off he would be out of the election. But during the 1850-1860s that wasn't the case. Abraham Lincoln won with a landslid by the new state California which was up for debate of giving half of it to the south which was the law the 30degree line. The south was devastated that they had no power anymore in polictics so. Georgia seceded a few weeks after Lincoln was elected. Later the lower south join and created the Confederate States of America a new Country that the USA did not recognize. Lincoln was smart to not start the war so he provoked the south to attack fort Sumter they fell for it but the fort fell. Seeing this as a victory the upper south seceded and joined also making a total of 11 states. Saying the south was rebels to the country this pressured the USA to act in good morale . So the war started. The Confederate for their independent nation. And the US to destroy their new nation and reclaim what used to be their land and uniting it.

Lincoln was smart not trying to abolish slavery because certainly the border states would join the CSA and the would win the war so quickly and become a recognized country the border states had lots of men supplies factorys clothes it would double the CSA war efforts. The confederates did not only own slaves the US did too in the border states located between the two nation. The confederate saw too of them seemly join but they really didnt and added them to their flag making it 13 stars. In the emancipation slavery was only freed in non US states. Anti-slavery people been harassing the US for years so by 1863 Lincoln decided to do the emancipation. Ask any confederate the African Americans were not an issue, the confederates contained black confederate soldiers. They just wanted the own country and they almost did it too. If the war was about slavery like everyone said the south would never leave and slavery would probably still be in effect today or a big war happens in the 1900s to end it.
