What to do if you hate your mum? |

Answer
Some mothers should never have become mothers, but thankfully, most mothers are the best thing a son or daughter will ever have in their life. Here are reasons not to hate your mother:
- If she hounds you about getting a good education.
- If she wants you to study more.
- If she has a curfew on what time you come home or perhaps she doesn't want you out on a school night at all.
- Getting you to do chores at home.
- If she seems sharp in her comments to you at times. You have the opportunity to ask her what is going on if you didn't deserve that comment.
- Complaining about the styles of clothing or makeup you are wearing.
- Not wanting you to go out to certain parties or hang around certain groups of girls or boys.
- Wanting to meet the boys you date.
- Perhaps she feels you are too young to date.
Good mothers learn to say the word 'no' to their children because they want their children to have the best things in life such as a good education, perhaps a career, traveling and the freedom to make their own choices by being mature and independent. A young person may not see this at the time it's happening.
If you are not a minor and you hate your mother for various reasons realize that she could have mental issues; she may be going through her menopause (women can get very testy during this time because their hormones are all over the place ... this generally can happen if their 40's up.) It could be side effects of medications she is on. Look at your mother as a woman first, then your mother. Have the guts to sit down with your mother and ask her what is bothering her. She may feel lonely, dejected, fearful of becoming old where no one will need her. If she has been truly abusive to you by hitting, name-calling then take a break from your mother and get on with your own life. Keep the visits down to once or twice a month and if that bothers you let your mother know in a calm manner that you've had enough and then move on.
