Aaliyah released her debut album (as well as song and video) titled 'Age Ain't Nothing But A Number' which was written and produced by singer R Kelly. At the time Aaliyah was only 15 years old and people began to speculate that because R Kelly was already known in the industry for having a "sweet tooth" for younger females, that there was something going on between him and Aaliyah.
These rumors went so far as to people even claiming the two were married, which also could have ultimately resulted in the destruction of Aaliyah's burgeoning music career. The rumors of them married were not true, even when Vibe tried to sabotage that statement with publishing what others DID believe as a real marriage license.
