no - born in a stable, raised by ordinary parents, he was not rich (moneywise)
he was rich in loving/emotional terms, though! :)
he was rich if you think rich means when somoene is loving kind and caring!::):>) he was a loyal man!:>)
Yes,yes, yes, His parents had a donkey to ride to Bethlehem to pay their taxes, most people walked. He was born in a stable because all rooms were taken, not because Joseph was poor. Remember, Joseph was a carpenter. He built houses. The wise men gave the family GOLD and rare perfume. Later, at will, He could fill a fishing boat with so many fish that it could almost sink. He could pull gold out of the mouth of fish, turn gallons and gallons of cheap water into fine wine. In the last part of His life, He fed, clothed and housed 12 men for three years and even had a personal treasurer to hold His money... a man called Judas, who was known to take a little off the top for himself. That 30 pieces of silver most likely was taken from the very pocket of Jesus.
Another answer:
"Rich" is a relative term that conveys different thoughts to the minds of different people. There is the concept today of being "filthy" rich, in which people might picture someone literally "rolling in his millions" just for the indulgent fun of it. But biblical evidence, as mentioned above, suggests that Jesus was very "well-off" without being "stinking" rich.
Of course, Jesus obeyed and practiced the principles of The Bible [and His Father in heaven], which leads to, not just spiritual, but, material prosperity.
"The LORD was with Joseph [Jacob's son] and blessed him greatly... Potiphar noticed this and realized that the LORD was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did." (Gen.39:2-3 NLT New Living Translation)
Being the "legal" firstborn son of Joseph, according to His "birthright," Jesus would have inherited the "CEO" seat of His father's successful "family construction business" of which His "half-brothers and sisters" [and His mother] would have also been His "business associates"... not to mention inheriting and becoming the "head of Joseph's household" there in Nazareth. ed. Jesus was not the first born son of Joseph. He was God's first born son. He was the youngest son of Joseph.
The Bible also reveals that His successful "construction business" allowed Jesus to own A SECOND HOME in CAPERNAUM... which was a high-end place of residence for the wealthy of that day. Even a Roman Centurion of record [Matt.8:5], an officer of the occupying Roman forces, lived there. Jesus was always traveling to Capernaum... spending much time in His home there.
"...He... returned home to Nazareth in Galilee; but soon He moved to Capernaum... the countryside beyond the Jordan River, and Upper Galilee where so many foreigners [Gentiles] live - there the people who sat in darkness have seen a Great Light; they sat in the land of death, and the Light broke through upon them." (Matt.4:12-15 & Isa.9:1-2 LVB Living Bible)
"And Capernaum, though highly honored, shall go down to hell [hades; the grave]..." (Matt.11:23 NLT New Living Translation)
"After some days He entered Capernaumagain, and it soon became known that HE WAS AT HOME..." (Mark 2:1 WEYWeymouth's New Testament)
Jesus wore an expensive robe... not affordable to a poor person [especially a "homeless" person, as the world believes Jesus to have been]:
"When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided His clothes among the four of them. They also took His robe, but IT WAS SEAMLESS, WOVEN IN ONE PIECE FROM THE TOP. So they said, 'Let's not tear it but throw dice to see who gets it..." (John 19:23-24 NLT)
People called Jesus; Teacher, Rabbi, and Master. A poor, homeless street-beggar doesn't qualify for those titles of respect and honor.
Jesus Christ was quite "well-off"... materially -- but He was "rich"... spiritually... not allowing His material wealth to cloud or distract Him from His purpose for being born -- to fulfill His Father's will: "...'My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from Me. Yet I want your will, not mine." (Matt.26:39 NLT)
Contrary to popular belief, Jesus did not grow up in poverty. He was born in poverty, in a stable in Bethlehem, but spent his childhood in a rather middle-class upbringing. Carpentry was a highly regarded profession in those days, and so Joseph, his earthly father, would have been a respected middle-class businessman. However, in his ministry, Jesus gave up everything so that he moved from place to place without possessions. There was a common purse for the disciples' expenses - held by Judas Iscariot - but otherwise Jesus possessed very little. We are told, however, that he possessed his robe, as this was bet for by the soldiers at his crucifixion. This robe was woven from one piece of cloth, and as such, would have been very expensive and a remnant from his previous life as a carpenter. Other than that, he possessed nothing despite his privileged background.
no, some were just plain fishermen and one was a tax collecter. None of His disciples were even close to weathy in terms of money.
Answer:
"Wealth" is relative.
The original twelve were all gainfully employed and had jobs that supported them... some perhaps better than others. Even Judas "had the bag" (was the treasurer of the group - John 13:29).
There was only one who was said to be "rich":
"...there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple..." (Matt.27:57). But he wasn't of the twelve.
Jesus is recorded to have had a second home in Capernaum, besides the one in Nazareth, whereby, being the firstborn of His "legal" father, Joseph when he died, He became the head of His family's household... and CEO of His father's family-owned "construction business."
In those days, Capernaum sported the homes of many wealthy and influential people. Hot springs, spas and indoor baths and Plumbing were part of living in Capernaum in those days. The upper-crust lived there... doctors, lawyers... and an occupying Roman Centurion lived there.
"...when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto Him a centurion..." (Matt.8:5)... who displayed a remarkable faith of which Jesus marvelled.
Peter also had a home in Capernaum, which his family's fishing business financed for him. Following the centurion incident, Jesus made His way to Peter's house:
"...when Jesus was come into Peter's house, He saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of fever..." (Matt.8:14).
While they aren't said to be "rich" in God's Word... Jesus and Peter, at least, are recorded to have been "wealthy" enough to own homes in a very "wealthy" neighborhood.
They were certainly not the "poor homeless street beggars" that some people make them out to be.
"...they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the Sabbath day He entered into the synagogue, and taught... and forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon (Peter) and Andrew, with James and John..." (Mark 1:21-29).
"... again He entered into Capernaum, after some days; and it was noised about that He was in the house (at home)..." (Mark 2:1).
He was not poor but he was not rich either. He shared with those more needey than him.
No jesus came from very simple and humble backgrounds his father Joseph was a carpenter.
In monetary terms, no. Jesus rejected material things, and that included wealth.
In spiritual terms, he was (according to Christian beliefs) the richest one of all.
