ICF blocks are leave in place concrete forms made of foam, typically with some type of high density plastic stud imbedded vertically 16" on center. The tops and bottoms of the foam forms interlock for easy stacking, commonly 4 -5 ft long, a foot tall, and 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 inches thick, these have rebar placed horizontally and vertically as there are erected and then filled with concrete, providing a very well insulated, exceptionally strong structure which can be finished with drywall inside and virtually anything outside. Great for areas prone to tornados, hurricanes or very hot or cold temperatures. 10-30% more expensive than stick building but much more cost effective for heating and cooling, and much safer from a variety of environmental hazards including the ones mentioned above as well forest fires.

Can a swimming pool be built using insulated concrete forms?

There are a few pictures of pools using insulated concrete forms here:http://www.quadlock.com/insulated_concrete_forms/residential.htmWe've recently built a few pools in the UK using the above system for ICF swimming pools. The system is particularly suited to constant depth pools where the rapid construction method can be best utilised. We are also creating a monolithic shell (pouring walls and floor in one go), so the structures are rock solid.
