I've heard the proper response is "And the rest of the day to yourself." I'm Irish and I have never NEVER EVER heard anyone say that except in films with ridiculously bad Irish stereotypes. Couldnt agree more with the last answer. It makes me cringe when ever I hear an American say that and put on a really bad Irish accent
