Let's look at some of the polar bears assets that help them survive in the arctic:
- They have hallow fur that traps heat.
- Their fur is appears to be white for camouflage.
- They have a lot of body fat which helps them stay warm.
- There's even more, but u asked for three.
So if they moved to the desert, they would die of sunstroke right now.
Changes...
- Tan fur.
- Different way of hunting.
- Less body fat.
- (And the sarcastic part of me...) A new name.
Polar bears simply cannot survive without their ice. If they changed even a bit, we would call them something like, Desert Bears! They cannot adapt very easily to a new environment. Sadly, at this rate, the polar bears will soon only survive in zoos... It's horrible, really.

∙ 10y agoNo adaptations would ready any polar bear for the desert. It would have to become, genetically, morphologically and physiologically an entirely different bear. It can no longer have the black skin nor the clear, hollow hairs, it must become much smaller in size, and it can no longer eat fat off of seals because no seals are found in the desert. It would have to adopt a diet very similar to that of the black bear--omnivorous, not carnivorous, eating everything from reptiles to bugs to various edible desert plants it comes across. It would have to know the best times to come out and forage is at dawn and after dusk.

A polar bear has thick fur that allows it to survive the harsh cold weather, now the polar bear has been put into a dfifferent environment where the fur is of no use, and there isn't much food or water for the polar bear to survive on.

∙ 6y agoActually, polar bears do live in a polar desert. Not all deserts are hot. While most people think deserts are hot, we actually have cool deserts as well as cold deserts. Both the Arctic and the Antarctic are considered to be cold deserts because of their low humidity and low annual precipitation.

∙ 6y agoPolar bears do live in a desert. A desert is not defined by temperature but by precipitation and humidity. The polar region where the polar bear lives is classified as a cold desert so the bear would not have to adjust at all. It is already living in a desert. There are hot deserts, cool deserts as well as cold deserts. Some are hot in the summer and bitterly cold in winter. Some are cold all year long.

Yes, it would survive in a desert. As some people would say a desert is a hot, inhospitable place to be, but a desert is a place with nothing in it, so that means that the arctic and Antarctica is a desert.

Most of the ice in Antarctica is on land. It is not the one-metre-thick ice of the Arctic that Polar Bears need for the hunting habitat. There are seals in Antarctica, and also penguins, though both of these are much faster in the water than polar bears. They would have to adapt to a different style of hunting, and this might not be possible.
