Most airlines have very specific policies concerning children flying alone. It's allowed at a certain age by some, it's completely not allowed at all by others, and by some there are conditions for your child flying alone.

The best way to find out is to contact the airline in question, or find out on the airlines official site.

It depends on the specific airline. I flew alone the first time when I was 7 years old. Most airlines have an unaccompanied minor policy, which can differ from airline to airline, but I believe most start at five years old.

At what age are children allowed to fly on their own without an adult?

That depends on the airline policy, there is nothing in the law about that. Some airlines offer the service of a child hostess that accompanies a child flying alone. Even some airlines don't care at all, if you're able to board on your own you can fly along.

Does your child age 12 need a Canadian passport to fly?

yes the child of 12 years of age does need a passport, i think the age that you need a passport is 8 years of age. No, the passport would not generate enough resistance to provide lift. The child would probably need wings to fly.
