"This too shall pass" originated with Persion Sufi poets during the 13th-century. In 1859, Abraham Lincoln gave a speech in which it was quoted. It is often mistaken for being a Bible verse; however, the phrase does not appear literally but rather thematically within.

The exact quote does not appear in the Bible. Most say that it is a paraphrase of teachings from the Bible.

When specific sections are sited some say it is from Corinthians I and some say it is from Ecclesiastes.
