Benedict Arnold (1740-1801) for whatever reasons (envy, personal gain, or political disagreements) passed the defense plans for the fort at West Point to the British in 1780. When discovered, he fled to a British ship. He fought for the British briefly in raids in New England, and later lived in New Brunswick, Canada, before relocating to London. He briefly served the British military in the West Indies in 1792.

He was Benedict Arnold.

Passed over for promotion by the Continental Congress while other general officers took credit for his many accomplishments and his dislike for the French with whom the Colonies were now aligned he swore allegence to the throne and changed sides in 1779.

Bendict Arnold. He didn't fare well after his betrayal. The British didn't meet the terms of their agreement and Arnold died alone, broke, and his reputation ruined.
