well the standard ar-15 is a colt. but now these days the most poopular are generally either DPMS or Bushmaster. the best of the Best is Barret and LWRC.

How much do you want to spend? DPMS, CMMG, Double Star, Colt, Les Bauer, POF, Bushmaster, LMT, Noveske... all make AR-15s in different price ranges. All do what they're supposed to.
There are at least 2 different "Bushmasters". The automatic cannon known as the Bushmaster is made by ATK. The AR style rifle that is made under the Bushmaster brand is made by Bushmaster Firearms, which is part of the Freedom Group of companies which includes Remington, Bushmaster, Marlin, Parker, Barnes Bullets, Para USA, and others. H&K does not manufacture a Bushmaster.
Yes, at least the rifles would be. It's simply a different material used for the receivers, but they're milled to the same measurements.
