I think it depends on the actual doctor you see, but i highly reccomend, numbing cream... theres one called emla cream, its 5%, as opposed to the cheaper brands that are only 2%... it really is amazing depending on how long it will take to do your tat, it only lasts about half an hour but it eases you into the pain, making much easier to handle!

I'm not sure about vicodin but I recently went for my 7th tattoo and nearly passed out it was so sore, once the outlines were done I was defeated. I couldn't no more. When I went back for it to be finished a week later, I used a cream called Emla. Pure pleasure, I could feel the work being done but there was no pain. I applied the cream 20 minutes before time, wrapped by back in clip wrap and just let the cream absorb. I managed to sit for two hours before the effect of the cream started wearing off.
