Since photons are very light, a laser or some sort of directed light would provide very little actual thrust. There are hypotheses that a "solar sail" could be used to give small amounts of thrust...
No mass can be accelerated to the speed of light. Einstein showed this in his earliest papers, and we have not thought our way around restrictions that he showed were in place in nature.
