Since the Viet War modern aircraft are "fly by wire." They are computer driven and are equipped with smart weapons.
Example: When a Viet War jet was heading for the ground and the pilot either blacked out or was seriously wounded, the jet would go into the ground (crash). In todays aircraft computers would take over and save the nearly billion dollar aircraft from being destroyed.
Todays helicopters are also safer; example: The Blackhawk is designed to be nearly crash proof with its collapsing body to cushion crewmembers when the aircraft impacts the ground. In any of the Viet War birds any impact would crush the crewmen inside the machines.
Bottom line: Viet War & beyond flying machines were solely man operated. Post Vietnam is primarily computer operated.
