What African American scientist was a noted botanist?

Answer:

George Washington Carver was a notable African American botanist. For those who don't know who he was, he is unofficially credited with the invention of peanut butter.

He never patented it because he claimed it was gods creation, and he had no right to claim he had invented it.

Obviously, there were others who imitated his efforts, and claimed it for themselves.

However, historians have found that peanut butter was actually originally discovered by the Aztecs, and rediscovered several times later on.
