There is no minimum age at which children in the UK can be left on their own, nor do laws specify how old someone needs to be to babysit. However, if the babysitter is under 16, then the parent remains legally responsible for the child's safety.

Under the Children and Young Persons Act parents in England and Wales can be prosecuted for wilful neglect if they leave a child unsupervised "in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health". Punishment ranges from a fine to 10 years' imprisonment. Similar legislation is in force in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Without legally specified ages to guide them, parents may be left scratching their heads over this grey area but children's charity, the NSPCC, advises that children under 13 should not be left at home alone for long periods and children under 16 should not be put in charge of younger children.

In Ontario the child who is watching a younger sibling has to be the legal age of 12..... though a ten or 11 year old can stay home by him or herself,But they are not legally aloud to stay over night alone, all three of these ages. That you would have to be 16 to stay or babysit overnight!

Four or Five, depending on how long you plan to leave him or her alone. Four for one to twenty four hours and Five for up to a week. It isn't recommended to leave a child alone for more than a week until the age of six.

What is the age to babysit younger sibling in England?

There is no age limit anywhere in the UK, but leaving a child "improperly cared for" is against the law. Really, it depends on what your parents think suitable! If you want to watch your sibling, ask if you can try doing it for a couple hours to see if you like it. Good luck!

A child is one third the age of an older sibling The sum of the children's age is 16 How old is the younger child?

Let say that the age of the older sibling is x, then the age of the younger child is (1/3)x or x/3. So we have,x/3 + x = 16 multiply both sides by 3x + 3x = 484x = 48 divide by 4 to both sidesx = 12 the age of the olderx/3 = 12/3 = 4 the age of the younger. Thus, the younger child is 4 years old.
