The legal age of majority for the state is 18. That being the case the parents of the adult child can legally request that he or she leave the family residence. There are stipulations to such action, the adult child must be given a reasonable amount of time to find other suitable living arrangements (minimum 30 days). The adult child must also be allowed to take all personal belongings including those items which were gifted to them. Exceptions would be if there is a court order that opposes such action or the adult child suffers from a physical and/or mental condition. If either matter applies it would be necessary for the parents to seek legal assistance in resolving the issue.
