Paracetamol can usually be taken by anyone, at any age, however you must read the label carefully and always follow the instructions before taking any.

If you have any doubts, it is always best to consult your GP for advice as he/she will tell you what is best in your situation.

How does calpol work?

The theory as to how Calpol works to control pain and fever is that it inhibits prostaglandins in the brain and spinal cord and results in significant reduction of pain impulses in the body. Prostaglandin is a substance that responds to trauma and increases accordingly. Reduction in fever is however achieved by increased peripheral blood flow in the hypothalamus, which dissipates heat and lowers the body temperature. Though Calpol is used often in children, it is also used in treatment of adults for pain associated with arthritis, menstrual cramps and other conditions. Calpol is also prescribed when people are allergic to Aspirin and though it is not anti-inflammatory, Calpol is much safer than most other drugs and well tolerated by Calpol is considered safe for kids and is prescribed for infants as young as 3 months old.
