What age or weight must a front seat passenger be? |
[Edit] |
Answer
Everything I just read (and I live in New Jersey) states that children need to be 8 years old and/or 80 lbs. to sit in the front seat of a car. And of course, still wear a seat belt in the front seat. If children are 40 to 80 lbs., they should sit in the back seat with a booster seat, provided your car has a back seat. If your car does not have a back seat, the child can sit in the front seat, but the child still needs a booster seat, and the passenger side air bag should be de-activated. I read in one location that the height requirement is 4 feet 9 inches, but every where else, it stresses the weight of the child (80 lbs.) is the most important factor.
I also stress that this is what I have found during my research on the internet regarding this topic, and that I do not write or make the laws in any state, so please continue to do your own research in your home state to confirm this answer.
Thank you!
