George Washington Carver was around 25 years old when he attended Simpson College. There is no official record of his actual birthdate, but it is presumed to be around 7/12/1865. Afer sending out many letters to colleges, he was actually accepted at Highland College only to be rejected when he arrived and they found out that he was African American. While at Simpson in 1890, he studied art and piano and year later, in 1891 at the suggestion of his art teacher, he left Simson and went to Iowa State Agricultural College in Ames to study botany.
