You should take whatever coverage limit you feel you require and can afford. For most people the standard or minimum policy limits required in your state will be adequate. Higher income individuals may often elect to take higher limits to protect certain assets in the event of a suit. Your Insurance Agent can advise you on what coverages may be appropriate for your needs. If you do not have an Insurance Agent and are using a "Direct Insurer", then your pretty much left to your own devices. Direct Insurers will typically try to sell you the highest limits possible. Being over insured can be considered an invitation to a law suit and extended litigation for an event that would normally not have resulted in litigation at all.

Comparing Insurance before Buying?

Shoppers should look for more than the lowest price for insurance. To determine the true value of a policy, shoppers must take the amount of coverage into consideration in relation to the price of each premium. The level of customer service provided by insurance providers should also be taken into consideration. Customers should not focus entirely on price, but determine the amount of coverage they are comfortable with and look for the most reasonable rates for the coverage amount. Before committing to a purchase, customers should consider the policies of the provider and look for a history of customer satisfaction.

Uninsured motorist coverage provides insurance coverage when you are hit by a person who has no insurance coverage. You uninsured motorist coverage will take the place of the insurance that the other person did not have and will cover your damages just like theirs should have if they had it. Can your health insurance company force your spouse to take her employer's health plan as primary instead of yours?

Yes, under the standard Coordination of Benefits provisions contained within Group Health Plans, the "rules" to determine which coverage pays first (primary) are clearly stated. Also, a plan can contain a provision that states if a spouse is eligible for coverage as an employee and chooses not to take that coverage, the other plan can deduct the amounts the other plan would have provided (even if the spouse did not elect the coverage).
