A food web is a series of food chains. In the rain forest a food web would begin on the floor of the forest where the fertile soil grows oats, that the mice eat, that the bats eat, that the are eaten by larger animals, and some humans.

This is really a food chain, not a web, but it's basically the same idea. Primary consumers eat the autotrophs, which are plants. Secondary consumers eat primary consumers. They are eaten by tertiary consumers, at the top of the food chain, when they die, they decompose being eaten by detritus feeders.

leaf ---> ant ---> lizard -----> alligator ----> crow ----> compost----> worms ----> birds -----> jaguar
