Any Pet - It often surprises pet owners to discover that for animals, chocolate is poisonous in sufficient dosages. Specifically it is the drugs in chocolate, theobromine and caffeine (of the drug class methylxanthines), that are toxic to pets. Only a moderate amount needs to be eaten by an animal, typically a dog, in order to be poisonous (approx. 1/2 oz. of Baking Chocolate per pound of body weight and less in some animals).

∙ 13y agoWell, to most animals, it is very, VERY deadly. It can mean severe illness, or maybe even death. Be careful what you feed your pets! And also if you over-feed your pets, they can't eat much more for about 2 days. But if you feed your pets dirty WATER....your in for a HUGE surprise tomorrow morning or tomorrow night. I won't tell you what it is. Because I...ME...have had this problem before.
This is very confusing but also cats and dogs are Not at ALL allowed to eat grapes! For some reason, it is very confusing. You might be able to look this information on the internet, or on here as a different question.

∙ 13y agodogs especially. Dark Chocolate is the worst. Tolerance of certain foods and other things depends entirely on the animal. If you are looking for specifics, you will have to just search that animal. Some animals can tolerate food that can kill other animals.

∙ 12y agoChocolate contains theobromine that is toxic to dogs. It's similar to caffeine, and you shouldn't give your dogs coffee either. It takes about 2 ounces of Milk Chocolate to cause a reaction, less with dark chocolate. Symptoms include hyperactivity, diarrhea, and vomiting. Enough will kill a dog. If you don't know how much your dog ate, induce vomiting and go to the vet.
