septimin doesnt have any penisilin
Quite a few. Just for example, Sulfa-based antibiotics can be used, as well as the group of "cyclines" that started with tetracycline many years ago. On the new side, Oxazolidone class antibiotics are now approved for consumption as are the very new lipopeptide antibiotics like daptomycin.
It depends alot on the infection. Probably the most common substitutes include erythromycin, clindamycin, or a cephalosporin (while related, has less than 15% cross reactivity with PCNs for first generation cephalosporins - even less for higher generations). If the reaction is not a severe one (respiratory distress, throat swelling, etc), cephalosporins are probably the best choice.
Again, it depends alot on the type of infection and where it was acquired.
There are different classes of antibiotics. Many people allergic to Penicillin itself can also be allergic to other drugs in that class (Penicillin), as well as the cephalosporins (a class very similar to the penicillins). Only a few antibiotics are in the sulfa class, so that may not be a big deal at all.
Even in your case, there are still quite a few antibiotic choices left. There is the fluoroquinolone class. This class includes ciprofloxacin (Cipro), levofloxacin (Levaquin) and the newer drugs moxifloxacin (Avelox) and gatifloxacin (Tequin). Also the tetracycline class and the macrolides erythromycin (E-mycin), clarithromycin (Biaxin) and azithromycin (Zithromax). There are also other choices from other classes that should be safe for you to take.
I believe that most doctors nowadays prescribe amoxicillin instead of penicillin for tonsillitis.
Zithromax
No, they are different medications -- vicodin is a narcotic pain killer and penicillin is an anti-biotic. An allergy to vicodin is unreleated to an allergy to penicillin. However, do not use Vicodin if you are allergic to acetaminophen (Tylenol) or hydrocodone. You should consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions regarding specific allergies to medications.
Not necessarily. Firstly, Augmentin is a combination of two different medicines: amoxicillin, which is related to penicillin, and clavulanate, which is not. You could conceivably be allergic to either one. Secondly, even if you have a reaction to amoxicillin, it might not necessarily be related to the penicillin-like part of the molecule. Or it could be a different type of reaction to amoxicillin, which has nothing to do with allergy. Fortunately, penicillin is one of the few medications for which there is an allergy test. I'd suggest you talk to a board certified allergist to discuss the details.
There is a world of medications that don't fall into those classes.
can you take Tylenol when I have allergy to aspirin
There is no relation between penicillin allergy and cyclobenzaprine allergy. There is no problem if you're only allergic to penicillin.
PCN
No
Yes, a penicillin allergy can be hereditary. If one or both of your parents are allergic to penicillin, your chances of being allergic are higher. Often though, penicillin allergies are just caused by exposure over a long period of time.
Yes. Amoxicillin is a penicillin family antibiotic
ido not know
No. Penicillin comes originally from the penicillium mold (mould). The tetracyclines all come from the streptomyces mold (mould). Oxytetracycline is related to streptomycin. Allergy to it probably means allergy to streptomycin, but not to penicillin. And vice-versa.
No.
