Between two rigid objects:
- Increase the surface area that is in contact between the two objects
- Increase the roughness of the surfaces in contact
- Increase the relative speed of the two objects
- Increase the force that pushes the two objects together
.
Between a rigid object and a fluid:
- Change the shape and/or orientation of the object so that a greater surface area encounters the fluid stream
- Increase the relative speed of the object through the fluid
- Increase the viscosity of the fluid
- Increase the roughness on the surface of the object (leads to more turbulent flow of the fluid)
