How did the invention of the camera influence impressionism?

For the first time artists could buy ready-made Oil paints (instead of spending a lot of time grinding colour pigments in oil) in a bigger range of colours. The new paints were packed in soft metal tubes, much as they are today, allowing thick paint to be squeezed directly onto the painting surface. It was also easier to carry paints for working outdoors, which was a new idea at that time.

Why was impressionism created?

The colors used as well as the subject are often very pleasing to the viewer. For the first time in history , @1860-1930's, artist's had every color in nature and the "spectrum of Light" to easily capture life and fleeting beauty. Art clubs in France and the States were the first to promote "pleine aire" outings in which artists such as Monet, Degas, Van Gogh, J.S. Sargeant, etc produced a large number of masterpieces , rich in color and subject.
