Ok. the statewide tests, attendance (actually most important), 3rd and 4th marking period of 7th grade count the most for your high school applications. If you are a 63 late, 12 absent with 92 average person and is competing with 1 absent 3 late with 89 average, they will pick the 89 average person. They need you in class more than having good grades. There is no point if you have excellent grades but suck in attendance. It might even make the school look worse so they wont accept you. They also look at the beginning of you 8th grade.
I got into the Bronx High School of Science with a 652.

You have to audition for LaGuardia to get on to it.
Study for it... I borrowed a book out of our library with practice questions and studied it, and only that, for a full week. Once you take the practice test, you will know which areas are your weakest and you will be able to study that.
The DOE has made it clear starting from 2012, that all SHSAT results will be handed to the student on February 28, 2012. Your schools will be the first to receive the results.
theres no such thing as passing the shsat. Its about getting past the cut line of the school you want to go to, which, in this case is Brooklyn tech. The cutoff for 2009 was around 480, so if you received a score higher, then congratulations! The shsat has no biased entry system, so if you believe that you have been cheated of your entry, call the DOE.
To take the SHSAT is free of charge.
The lowest you can get is about 510 but not less
Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (New York City)
