I can not find anything in the code to prohibit an adult, the seat belt says says "Each driver and front seatpassenger....", and my search for cargo, thinking there may be a law prohibiting riding in a cargo area returned nothing of value. Feel free to search yourself.

It would also be advisable to check with your local poilce department or the state police, they may be able to point you to a specific code if one exists that prohibits it.
