He is the first African American President of the United States, and the fifth-youngest person to become President. As the leader of the most powerful nation on earth, Barack Obama has inspired billions of people across the globe to take part in their political community, especially the youth populations.
When studying for his law degree, he was elected President of Harvard Law Review a difficult and impressive accomplishment, he was the first black man to hold that office. He also graduated from Harvard with academic honors, in the top 10% of his class. He was one of the youngest Illinois state senators, as well as one of the youngest US Senators. As a U.S. senator, he was among the few who opposed going to war in Iraq.
He has helped pass major measures designed to combat the international trafficking of nuclear weapons, promote the use of alternative fuels, and open up the budget process to greater public scrutiny.
He has published two best-selling books.
As president, he helped to rescue the United States auto industry when it was in dire straits.
He championed financial reform of Wall Street, which included imposing $500,00 caps on senior executive pay for the most distressed financial institutions receiving federal bailout money.
He led the mission that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden.
He championed legislation that will expand access to health care to millions of Americans.
In no particular order: Federal funding of stem cell research; closer oversight of the financial services/credit card industry including establishment of the Consumer Finance Protection Agency; ratification of the nuclear weapons reduction treaty with Russia; rescue of the US automobile industry; health insurance reform; timetables for bringing our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan; extension of unemployment compensation; an end to discrimination against homosexuals in the military; assisted in the overthrow of Gaddafi, at no loss of American life.
I am not sure what you mean by a good summary. Perhaps you mean a short, objective biography: Barack Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961. His mother was a white American, his father was a black African from Kenya. His mother was a non-practicing Christian; his father had been born Muslim but has stopped believing in any religion and was an atheist. When young Barack was two, his father left; his parents ultimately divorced. His mother remarried, to a man from Indonesia, and the family moved there for about five years. Barack returned to the US in the fifth grade, and lived with his maternal grandparents in Honolulu. He graduated high school in 1979, and graduated college in 1983.
After working for five years in Chicago as a community organizer and advocate for the poor, he attended Harvard Law School, graduating with academic honors in 1991. He married Michelle Robinson (who was also an attorney) in 1992; he worked as a civil rights attorney and also taught at the University of Chicago Law School until he decided to enter politics in 1996. Barack Obama was elected to the Illinois State Senate, and he served there for three terms. In 2004, he ran for the US Senate and won. He earned praise as an eloquent speaker when he delivered an address at the Democratic Convention that year. In 2007, he announced he would run for president. He defeated Hillary Clinton to win the Democratic nomination, and in 2008, defeated Senator John McCain by a wide margin. When Barack Obama was elected the 44th president in 2008, he became the first black president in US history. Like President Bush before him, President Obama was a polarizing figure in politics-- people either liked what he was trying to do or they hated it; there was rarely any middle ground. But despite how polarized the country was, in 2012, President Obama won re-election, defeating former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.
Yes he did. He had 21 achievements.
