What are Examples of mixture that can be separated by fractional distillation?

Answer:

Answer

Alcohol and water - it's the process of distillation that makes spirits (vodka, whisky, etc) from wine stock.

The alcohol industry uses the difference between the vapoursing temperatures of alcohol (80ºC) and water (100ºC), by heating the mixture to less than 100ºC, forcing the alcohol to evaporate and leaving water behind.

It's also possible to do this at low temps - water freezes at 0ºC, but alcohol at -114ºC, so freezing a water-alcohol mixture can freeze the water to ice, leaving the alcohol liquid.

FD is also extensively used in the petroleum industry, to separate all the various fractions in crude oil (petrol, kerosine, diesel, light lube oils, heavy lube oils, etc).
