Mi'kmaq culture has changed considerably since the days when the first European vessel arrived off the shores of the Mi'kmaq territories. Keep in mind we should remember that all cultures, including the Mi'kmaq, change over time. Today's Mi'kmaq are no less Indian simply because they wear the same clothes as other Canadians, drive cars, and watch television. Traditional humpback birch or skin canoes, while they still exist have been traded for mondern fishing boats. Winter hunting is still carried out, but now snowmobiles and ATV's are used. Like any other culture, the Mi'kmaq attend schools, colleges and universities while attempting to maintain cultural distiction.
