All Hindus are Aryans, who were the original natives of India that was Aryavrat or Bharatvarsh. Aryans had a four-fold division of society. Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras. Hindus believe in the doctrine of ahimsa, or causing no harm. For this reason many Hindus are vegetarians. Hindu scripture mentions reincarnation and certain persons have been considered avatars, or reincarnations, of gods.

Aryans were not barbarians. They had a beautiful language and a wise scripture. They may have come more than 5,000 years ago. The chief God of Aryans was Indra. It is the Aryan Gods who were relegated to secondary status. The indigenous belief won, that is why hindus worship Rama, Krishna, Shiva, Ganesha, Kartikeya, Durga, Lakshmi, Parvati, all of whom find no mention in Vedas because Vedas don't contain history. They are only Vedic scriptures.

It is a wise thing to change traditions and beliefs according to advances in science and the needs of the society. Yes, Hindus have freedom of personal belief, which is not available in Christianity or Islam. This is something which they should be proud of.

All mythological stories are seemingly illogical, whether in Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, or Hinduism. But they contain directions as to how life should be lived. Hinduism has an advantage that you can criticize even the actions of Gods. This would be considered blasphemy in Christianity or Islam.

All religions also show the way to live. That is the central message of any religion. Cow has a special place in Indian life. It gives us milk, yoghurt, whey, butter, cheese, and khoya (milk solids). Even after death, the hide is used for foot-wear. Indian diet is incomplete without them. Its calves gow up to till the land or pull the cart. Cowdung is used as a fuel, as a fertilizer, and to freshen the walls of adobe huts. More than that it is a family pet and sometimes the only valuable thing in a poor household. It is too precious to be eaten up. Nobody has stopped rearing of cows, it is considered a very pious act in Hinduism. Yes, there are Hindu communities which partake beef. Is eating beef the solution to all Indian economic problems?

People who believe in gods typically believe that god is the creator of everything -- the Earth and the universe and everything in it.

A theist believes that the god not only created everything, but he also watches over people, listens to their prayers, and sometimes intervenes based on what happens here on Earth.

By comparison, a deist believes that, while god created everything a long time ago, he simply set in motion the laws of nature and doesn't hang around to watch, judge, and interact with people.

Specific religions -- and different sects within one religion, such as Christianity -- will have slightly different opinions on what they believe about god. Some religions are polytheistic, meaning they believe in more than one god.
A belief in one god is monotheism, so a belief in two or more is polytheism.

That will depend upon whom you ask. In Judaism:

God is One. The concept of a dualism (as in Zoroastrianism), an independent Satan, multiple gods (polytheism; paganism) or a trinity of three in one, are all unimaginable in Judaism. Also, any belief that an intermediary between humanity and God should be used, whether as necessary or even optional, is considered heretical. He is non-physical, indivisible and incomparable. Jewish tradition teaches that God is beyond human comprehension; and that it is only God's revealed deeds, as He interacts with mankind and the world, that we can begin to grasp.

God is omniscient (He is aware of everything), and infinitely wise.
God created the universe and all existence, including time and space, in a deliberate, purposeful act of benevolent Creation.

God is the mover of everything. No molecule can move without the energy and direction with which God imbues it.

God is eternal; and His ways are also eternal. He is not capricious, forgetful or fickle.
God is just. He rewards good and punishes evil - whether in this world or in the afterlife.

God is ethical and moral; and He expects us to imitate His ways.

The God of Israel is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He is the guide of history, who delivered the Israelites from Egyptian slavery.
God is the source of law, who gave the Torah to the Israelites at Mount Sinai.
God is immanent and personal, meaning that he relates to humanity and hears our prayers. This is the basis of the Psalms and our siddur (prayerbook).

Is God Gravity?

Theists have always held that God was responsible for the creation of the universe. Stephen Hawkin now says that gravity was responsible for the "Big Bang" and therefore the creation of the universe. One way of looking at this is that God is gravity. Of course, theists would not accept this simplistic conclusion.

Do theists have any proof that god exists and if not why do they believe in god?

The area of conflict between theists and atheists is the fact that theists choose to believe the historical writings of a holy scripture such as the bible or Koran as a relative or complete truth because the society from which the believer comes from or has decided to become a part of has held these beliefs as traditional fats and have carried them down throughout many generations. On the other hand atheists do not accept these traditional scriptures as sufficient proof to accept the existence of the deity/deities described in the respective scriptures. Theists then can be said to be non-skeptics who accept traditional beliefs as fact, through the idea of faith, atheists then are those who are more skeptical and will only take physical fact as sufficient proof for the existence of god. "You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe." --Dr. Arroway in Carl Sagan's book "Contact"

Why do theists think that God exists?

The answer is as varied as religion itself. I believe in God only because of the profound experience I had when I felt convicted of my sins, I accepted Jesus as my savior, and I felt transformed into a new person. I felt like the old me was dead and different from my new self. I was in a state of peace beyond description. I really have no choice but to believe. Without that experience I would not believe.
