The first 3 food groups provide most of our carbohydrates(energy) in the form of sugars, starches and fiber, as well as most of our vitamins and minerals--ESPECIALLY if you eat fresh fruits and veggies. The second 3 food groups provide most of our fats (some of which are actually necessary to good health) The Meat and dairy groups provide most of our protein And the dairy group provides most of our calcium the 7 food groups are: 1.Fat 2.Water 3.Vitamins and Minerals 4.Fibre 5.Sugar 6.Starch 7.Protein Protein,Starch and Sugar are ALL carbahydrates. without water or food for 3 days you would become very, very ill.

4. The Grain Group

1. Top level, includes: fats, oils and sugars - use sparingly

2. Second level: dairy - milk, yogurt and cheese; meat, poultry & fish - two to three servings per day

3. Third level: vegetables and fruits - two to five servings per day

4. Bottom level: bread, cereal, rice, and pasta - six to eleven servings per day
