Benzodiazepines are "downers". They are typically used as sleep aids or anti-anxiety medications, but some are also used as anti-seizure medications and for other purposes. Benzodiazepines include Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, Ativan, Restoril, Halcion, etc. After long-term use at a high dosage, there is an increased risk of seizures of use is abrubtly stopped. Insomnia, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, and an increase in anxiety are all common withdrawal symptoms.
