What does it mean when a goldfish has a black spot and then it goes away?

This is going to depend on if the black spot was part of it's colouring when you first got your fish, or if it appeared at some point while in your tank, and went away at some point after you did a water change.
If it's the second part, then that would be an ammonia burn which is caused by poor water quality in the tank.

∙ 13y agoProbably ammonia burns. One goldfish requires a 20 gallon tank with 10 more gallons for each additional fish. Goldfish are huge waste producers and cannot be housed in small containers or bowls because they foul the water too quickly. They also grow to be up to a foot in length and suffering chronic organ failure when cramped.
Get a water filter.
Or, it could just be a natural change in the goldfishes skin. You never know...
Take a water sample to a pet shop, ask them to see if there's anything wrong.

∙ 12y agoIf the spot/s is on the fins and or tail, they are generally ammonia burns. To treat them simply clean out the water and add ammo-lock to treat it.

∙ 14y agoIf the orange spot is like an ulcer then it needs medication from your local pet store. If however it is just an orange scale or two then that is just its normal colouring.
