COMMON PROBLEMS WITH AND AROUND PEBBLE TECH POOLS Hydrostatic pressure is a major concern to technicians. Excessive hydrostatic pressure severely damages or destroys in-ground pools each season. When the pool is emptied for painting, re-coating or other work and left for a period of time, the existing under-ground water pressure or water soaked soil presses so hard upon the empty shell that it literally floats out of the ground. Even a slight change in hydrostatic pressure may move the pool enough to cause cracking, especially on deck/shell structures in expansive soils. Type situations causing floatation of in-ground pools/spas include: A pool built flush with the ground in a fairly depressed area with poor drainage, particularly in clay soils. A pool build on flat ground adjoining a hillside with the pool itself acting as a dam for underground water. A pool lying in soil that expands when soaked or even moist. A pool build in a high water table. To prevent pool flotation, look for an open any hydrostatic relief valves that might have been installed by the pool builder. This will allow ground water to seep into the pool Some pools are fitted with a manual type of hydrostatic relief plug, similar to a vacuum fitting flush with the floor of the pool. The automatic type is frequently found in the bottom of the main drain and is either spring loaded or made with a simple vertical check valve. Be sure to open the manual hydrostatic relief plug when a pool is drained. Be sure to check that an automatic hydrostatic relief valve is working properly when a pool is drained. A malfunction is exceedingly costly. When these valves re malfunctioning or non-existent, it is necessary to add new hydrostats or a well point system. Well point systems may require a professional to do this. These new points remain permanently on the pool site for future use. Regular pool pumps work well to relieve this subterranean pressure. These points should extend 12 inches under the pool. The pumps are kept running even with pumping at a trickle. The pool can then be drained.

How do you clean sand colored pebble tech on the coping aarea?

A 10-20% solution of muriatic acid and bristle brush will clean the pebble tech. Be careful, the acid will burn if it comes in contact with skin or eyes. By 10% I mean 1 part acid to 9 parts cold water. Always add acid to water not water to acid due to unwanted thermal reaction.

Will it hurt the pebble tech finish if the pool is drained for 3 or more months?

It shouldn't after all the top of the pebble tech pool is out of the water forever and it doesn't seem to hurt it. However be careful that you don't get a build up of ground water around the outside of the pool, This can cause an empty pool to start floating and that will definitely hurt it. If you have a hydro static valve at the bottom that works it should be ok.

Compare pebble tech pebble sheen and ultra poz pool interiors in cost warranty ease of cleaning and helping to keep the pool water warm?

Pebble sheen is usually the most expensive per square ft. is smoother than Pebble tec because the size of the pebble is smaller. Pebble tec is close in price to Pebble sheen is not as smooth as sheen but has better longevity because the larger pebbles stay in tact longer. Ultra poz is less expensive than Pebble is smoother than sheen. warranties depend on the company you choose but here in Phoenix I am seeing similar warranties on all three. A smooth surface is easier to clean but a darker color may not show the dirt like a white surface will. The darker the color the warmer the water.
