Anything that gets used up by your processes. For example, a magazine printer would have paper and ink as consumables. A construction business would have lumber, dry wall, nails, etc. as consumables. It can also mean anything you eat.

The term Consumer has two meanings:

In terms of Biology:

A consumer is an organism that eats or absorbs food from an external source.

Consumers are also called Heterotrophs

  • Plants absorb nutrients, carbon dioxide, and water, then use sunlight to convert them into glucose (sugar) for food.
  • Animals typically eat or plants, animals, or other organic materials from their environment.
  • Bacteria absorb their food through osmosis (water), diffusion (small particles), active transport (larger particles), or by other interesting means.

Consumers are generally any organism that can't make its own food

Consumers have to feed on producers or other consumers to survive.

Deer are herbivores, which means that they only eat plants (Producers).

Bears are another example of consumers. Black bears are omnivores and scavengers, like skunks and raccoons, which means that they will eat just about anything.

In terms of economics:

A consumer is a person who purchases and uses goods and services.
