In Iliad, they make it seem like Achilles is a horrible person, who kills hector but in the movie, Brad Pitt, who is playing Achilles is a good person and kills Hector because Hector kills Achilles's cousin..

Hi,

Just adding to the said above.

In the Iliad, Homers portrayed Achilles as a God, who was as if he was immortal. As well as a disturbed, human being.

Where in The Movie Troy, Achilles was believed to show "Human like emotions", As well as being a godlike creature who is Immortal.

These Differences are shown in the scene in both the poem and the movie, where Priam King of Troy, goes to Achilles at the Greek WAR camp as for Prince Hectors Dead Body back.

In the Iliad- Achilles says, that Hectors Body is for the dogs and the bird, to feed on. Where he shows NO emotion. King Priam Offered a ransom, for hectors body which was hectors weight in gold and one on Priams own Daughters hand in marriage.

In the Movie- Achilles shows great emotion toward Priam, and even cried over Hectors body while wrapping Hectors body for Priam to Take back to Troy for His funeral.

I hope I have helped!

Eryn.

Oh, by the way Achilles Cousin name was Patroculus who died in both the movie and the book. However, He wasn't only Achilles's cousin, he was also Achilles's Lover!

He is portrayed as a very angry man.

Hi, I have being Studying this very topic for the past few months. The are many similarities and many difference, in the Iliad by Homer and The Movie Troy, for Achilles character. The major similarities between the two would to me be, that Achilles was a Trojan war Hero, who wanted to be remember, as that. Another thing would be that he also new that after Hectors Death.... (Hector- the son of Priam, prince of troy, heir to Troy and Troy War hero).... That Achilles knew that he was soon to die as well.

Though a major DIFFERENCE IN THE TWO is that the Iliad ends at Hectors Death and Funeral, where the Movie Troy ends after the war. I hope this helps answer your question! Eryn

If you're using this for a paper, you're better off just reading The Iliad. It's a very interesting story. Here's the basic rundown of how Achilles' mind works throughout the Iliad.

Book 1: Achilles says: "Ohhh, Agamemnon, you're such a bastard. You had to give back your stolen slave girlfriend, so then you stole mine? I hate you. P.S. your crappy Greek army is nothing without me, so I'm going to sit over near my ships and sulk until I get my girlfriend back!" Plus, he's all pissed because it's his fate to either die in the Trojan war (and his name will live forever in glory), or go home and live a long live (but his name will be soon forgotten after his death).

Books 2-8: Achilles totally vanishes from the story. You don't hear from him again until book 9.

Book 9: Odysseus and some others go to Achilles to try and persuade him to join the fight again, because they are getting their behinds paddled by the Trojans. Achilles says: "I still hate you. And if I can't have my girlfriend back, I won't be fighting, thanks."

Books 10-15: Achilles vanishes again.

Book 16: Patroclus (Achilles's lover) comes over to Achilles's ships. Achilles says: "Oh wow, the Greeks are really getting their butts kicked, huh? I've got an idea - why don't you take my armor and go fight the Trojans some. But don't get close to Hector. He'll probably kill you dead." So Patroclus goes out to battle in Achilles's armor, runs into Hector, and Hector kills him dead. Not only does Hector kill him, he steals Achilles's armor, too.

Book 17: Menelaus recovers Patroclus's body.

Book 18: One of Achilles's men comes and tells him that Patroclus has been killed in battle. Achilles is really, really mad at Hector now. He doesn't care if Agamemnon still has his girlfriend, he's going to kill himself some Trojans. Achilles says, "I'm going to kill me some Trojans. Especially Hector, because he killed my lover."

Book 19: Oh hey! Agamemnon feels bad about Patroclus getting killed, so he gives Achilles's girlfriend back. They both wail and cry over Patroclus's body in what is actually a pretty heartrending scene.

Book 20: Achilles is missing because this book is about the gods.

Books 21-22: Achilles kills him some Trojans. Including, at the end of book 22, Hector. And dragged Hector's body back to the Greek camp behind his chariot. And let the rest of the army stab it a few times. Oh, and took his armor back. Achilles says: "Take that you friend-killing bastard."

Book 23: They hold a funeral for Patroclus, including funeral games and competition. In the middle of a war.

Book 24: Priam, Hector's father, comes to beg Achilles for his son's body (you know, the one he stabbed a bunch of times and then dragged through the dirt for a while). Achilles says: "You know what, I really only wanted to kill your son because he killed my lover, and hey, I have my girlfriend back now, so it's all good. You can have his body. And plus! We'll give you the full time you need to hold a royal funeral."

What are differences in Achilles'character in troy and iliod?

Achilles' most prominent traits in the Iliad are (first) resentment and hurt pride, after a favorite slave has been taken from him, and (later) anger and ferocity after his best friend has been killed in battle. If you mean: "how is Achilles' character different in the movie Troy from how it is in the Iliad", the answer is that it isn't much different. But the Iliad only describes the events in the very last year of 10 years' siege of Troy and does not say much of all that happened in the 9 years before. In the movie, all Achilles' acts that are shown from the beginning of the war can be considered to have been made up by the writers of the movie. Oh yes: and in the movie Achilles gets into the wooden horse and only dies after the conquest of Troy, while in the Iliad he dies much earlier and his son gets into the wooden horse.
