Dopamine agonists (DAs) are drugs that activate dopamine receptors, mimicking the effects of dopamine. In younger adults with early-stage PD, DAs appear to be more effective than levodopa.
Examples of dopamine agonists include:
Parlodel (bromocriptine)
Dostinex (cabergoline)
Permax (pergolide) - Removed from market in America March 29, 2007.[5]
Mirapex and Sifrol...
Dopamine is the major neurotransmitter of the reward circuit in the central nervous system. It also functions in movement and balance, among other things.
