Mutualism is a symbiotic relationship between two different species, in which both species benefit. An example would be a bird and a rhino. The bird is able to eat insects off of the rhino and is protected from predators, and the rhino gets cleaned of these insects.

In some more humid areas of the Atacama Desert one type of the plant that survives is the lichen. A lichen is a plant composed of an alga and a fungus. The fungus provides shelter and moisture for the alga, The alga, through photosynthesis, creates food for the fungus. Both organisms benefit and neither could survive without the other.
