English cuisine gets looked down upon by a lot of people, and for good reason. However, the English have contributed some important items to international cuisine. The archetypal English main dish is a roast of beef or lamb, accompanied by mustard sauce and flour-thickened gravy in the case of the beef, and by sweet-and-sour mint sauce in the case of the lamb. The English are the only people I know of that can make a kidney taste good. They also invented deep-fried battered fish and the deep-fried potato chip, which the Americans stole and renamed the French Fry.
On the flip side, the English tend to boil all vegetables into a tasteless mush, and avoid herbs and spices which would make the flavour of things more interesting, especially garlic, for some reason.
English desserts tend to be heavy, floury puddings like the famous Christmas pudding, or the delicious but equally heavy trifle.
