Hip hop began in New York around since the 1970's. It started being a modern day culture in late 1980s. The word hip hop means, popular urban youth culture, closely associated with rap music and the style. Hip hop is a concepts mainly based on rapping. DJing, sampling, scratching, beat boxing, and breaking dancing are all considered hip hop. Hip-hop was developed by Blacks and Latinos. Now people of all ages are interested in the culture of hip hop. There is a wide range of different styles of hip-hop. Hip hop dance had been particularly strong influence in France and South Korea. For instance Break Dancing, locking, and popping. There are also three elements of hip hop free styling, battles, and ciphers. Break dancing is also a great part of hip hop dancing. The first professional breaking, locking, and popping crews preformed in the 1970s. The home of the most professional hip-hop dancer in the world is Tectonics. The development of hip-hop is practiced in both studios and outside spaces. Most of the time these days people like to battle in alleys. There are many hip hop dancers. Some hip-hop singers are Snoop Dogg, Soulja boy, Missy Elliott, Kanye West, and many more. For 2009 the most popular song is "Empire State of Mind" by J-Zay featuring Alicia Keys. The most influential groups included the Rock Steady, The Lockers, and the Electric Boogaloos who are responsible for the spread of breaking, locking, and popping respectively. Such as "The Running Man" and "Cabbage Patch" were once the top spot! People all over the world were doing these dances!!
