World War 1 lasted about 4 years (1914 -1918)

Over 15 million were killed during the war

It was largely a war between monarchy and democracy, with the democratic side as the aggressor.

The results of the war were major contributors to the great depression and World War 2. 196 us people died of killing them self in ww1

It was not the first world war that was the seven years war between France and Britain., 1876 - 1873. It was known by many as the Great War since people could not imagine anything like this ever happening again. From answers I have read in these columns one could believe the U.S. won the war, they contributed to it and played a small part in the final defeat of the Germans when the British, Canadian and French armies drove the Germans back onto and through the Hindenburg Line and to the German border.

1) Although The assasination of Franz Ferdinand was a main cause of the war, violence had been brewing between the Empires for many years 2) Turkey was the 'weak man of Europe' and its loss of Serbia led to tensions between Russia, and Autria-Hungary 3) Germany's war plan was meant to be was on both sides would not happen but it was so badly prepared that war on both sides occured anyway. ( I could go on, I'm a bit of a History nerd! )
