It was known by many as the Great War since people could not imagine anything like this ever happening again. From answers I have read in these columns one could believe the U.S. won the war, they contributed to it and played a small part in the final defeat of the Germans when the British, Canadian and French armies drove the Germans back onto and through the Hindenburg Line and to the German border.
